Hard Work!

When my Worm Farming husband was just my boyfriend, he bought a brand new truck.  He brought it to my parents’ house and showed it off to everyone.  It was beautiful!  We drove it all around that night, looked at all the features, and had so much fun imagining life together in this truck.  The places we’d go!  The trips we’d take! The Worm Grottos we’d haul – what?!

No, twelve years ago neither one of us could have imagined we’d be loading a dismantled Worm Grotto into the bed of that truck, driving for 40 minutes, unloading and re-assembling it on the grounds of Phoenix Zoo.  Yet, this morning, that is JUST what we did.

A few weeks ago, my husband met a wonderful lady who also farms worms in the Valley (www.vermilove.com) and works at Harmony Farm at the zoo.  She came to our house to check out the Worm Grotto and see if it was something that could be used to help with composting and fertilizing at the farm.  During his discussion with her, my entrepreneurial worm-farming hubby offered to donate a Worm Grotto to the Phoenix Zoo.  In exchange, the zoo kindly offered to display a sign with the name of the system and our business name.  Win-win, right?  One thing led to another, and today we worked together to install a Worm Grotto near the existing worm bin at Harmony FarIMG_0128m.

Just so you know…installing Worm Grottos isn’t for weaklings.  I’m what my hubby calls “an indoor girl” and this is definitely OUTDOOR work!  I don’t get dirty all that much, and all I ever lift is a child now and then.  The containers that make up the system are full of composted dirt, leaves, veggies and coffee grounds, and they fit together just so.  It takes muscle and brains to make this thing happen.  If I wasn’t proud of what my husband has accomplished up until now, I’m DOUBLY proud today.  He’s smart, strong and knows his business.

Check out the Worm Grotto at Harmony Farm!  I promise you’ll like it!

Due to high temperatures, we are only able to ship worms October through April. Summer worm orders may be picked up upon request.
