Crate Expectations

Raise your hand if you’ve ever had a pallet of crates delivered to your front door.   I sincerely hope I am the only one with my hand in the air, tentatively admitting that this indeed happened to me.  A pallet of crates – which is, in fact, NINETY-SIX crates – now line the pool fence of our backyard.  Don’t tell the HOA!

The same day that our family installed the Worm Grotto at the Phoenix Zoo’s Harmony Farm, we got the notice that my worm farmer’s crate shipment was going to be delivered.  We didn’t know what to expect, we just knew it would be big.  Exhaustion from our early morning of heavy lifting had already set in, and we were all snuggled down in the living room watching a movie.  Twenty minutes into a much-deserved nap, my hubby was jolted awake by the doorbell – the crates had arrived!  Mr. Worm Farmer jumped into action – PAUSE THE MOVIE!  THROW ON THE SHOES!  IT’S CRATE HAULING TIME!

Groan, groan, groan…four very sweet and helpful children slipped on their flip-flops and trudged outside, to be greeted with the greatest sight known to a small child – a delivery truck with a ramp!  Better than any movie, that pallet of crates made its way from truck to sidewalk with four children hanging on its every move.  Ninety-six crates, in a tall tower, were safely set in front of our house.  As the delivery truck drove away, my hubby and I looked at each other and then back at the stack.  He shrugged, started unwrapping, and we set to work.  Only pictures can tell this part of the story:IMG_0648IMG_0647IMG_0652

This is serious business, this worm farming.  Ninety-six crates await their new home as Worm Grottos in backyards everywhere.  Anyone interested?
